Dear Jane....

   Dear Jane,

I actually do have a big problem with getting up in the morning. I am nocturnal, so I prefer staying up all night and sleeping in, but with school, it's impossible because I have to get up at 5 in the morning. And I can't get to sleep early at night because I'm nocturnal and I physically cannot fall asleep early (nor do I particularly want to. I'm the most awake at night). Also, coffee has no effect on me.
During the weekend it takes me literally hours to get up, and then only when someone wakes me. If I set a timer I just ignore it (but not during the week because of school) and go back to sleep for hours. I usually get up at 11 or 12 but one day I wasn't woken up until 4 in the afternoon, and I would have kept going otherwise. I'm just addicted to sleep.
Can you help me?

Dear Alicia the Awesome,
A lot of people have this problem--sleeping in, not getting to school on time. For a question, what time do you go to bed? Let's see. You're addicted to sleep, so try to get an even MORE annoying timer. I mean, if you just sleep through it/ignore it you obviously need something more loud, and annoying. Alicia, this is a hard one.  If it takes you hours to get up, then set aside time to get ready, do your  hair, etc. I'm not sure if this is good advice, but check your schedule. What's making you addicted to sleep? Maybe it's too many things going on or late bedtime. Try pushing it up, even if you are nocturnal. Go to bed at like 10:00? Try going at 9:00. Do whatever you can to find out why you need the sleep--make a change!

Good luck with your problem!
